A COALITION OF ORGANIZATIONS UNITED FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
It is a coalition of anti-fracking and other environmental groups focused on issues revolving around fossil fuel extraction, particularly but not exclusively, slickwater, horizontal hydraulic fracturing. The aim of the coalition is to share information, event notifications, action-planning, and so on among the various related groups in Pennsylvania in a more timely, efficient, productive fashion in the interest of a common goal: the end of the destruction to health, community and environment posed by fracking and other forms of fossil fuel extraction.
We chose this logo because it is simple, unifying, direct, and clear. You could find this kind of geology in many places–the Marcellus, the Utica, the Barnett, and the Bakken. Fossil fuel is a finite resource and poses an infinite danger to our air, land and water. It is short term gain in exchange for long term pain.
In combination with the power wielded by corporations like Monsanto, the pharmaceutical giants, and the profiteers of permanent war (many of whom are the same players, for example, Halliburton), Big Energy represents a future where we could find ourselves at war over access to water–the new rare resource–utilizing the very gas in our war machines we destroyed the water to extract. We think the irony of this scenario is expressed in the simplicity of our name and our logo
Hence the word “justice.” Extreme extraction, and the “too big to fail” corporations whose own fortunes depend on the success of this last gasp of the fossil fuel industries, has many faces–many of whom are the faces of injustice.
The economically vulnerable, the poorly educated, indigenous peoples. The people, in other words, who enjoy the benefits of shale extraction do so at the expense of those least able to avoid, abate, or escape the enormous costs in deteriorating health, eviscerated property values, sick and/or dying livestock, divided communities, dangerous roadways, and diminished quality of life.
Our goal is to share information, event notifications, and action-planning among related groups in Pennsylvania in a timely, efficient, pro-active fashion in the interest of a common goal: the end of the destruction to health, community and environment posed by fossil fuel extraction.
